Activision Blizzard has now officially confirmed its acquisition of eSports juggernaut Major League Gaming.
After numerous rumours since the New Year, Activision & MLG confirmed the news, simultaneously debunking the claim that MLG CEO Sundance DiGiovanni had left the company.
According to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, this acquisition will further their plans to “create the ESPN of esports.”
DiGiovanni has also spoken of his enthusiasm for the move, stating that Activision’s “commitment to competitive gaming will expand the opportunities for gamers to be recognized and celebrated for their competitive excellence.”
As for current MLG operations, it has been confirmed that “MLG will continue to operate MLG.tv, MLG Pro Circuit and GameBattles platforms, and will continue to work with its partners and other publishers across the industry.”
