Whether you spend the time in Forge to set up the perfect scene to get your creative vison to come to life or you simply play the game and then go back into theater mode searching for just the right moment, taking screenshots in Halo is fun. Photography is considered an art form and many people, myself included, believe that applies to “screenshot photographers” as well.
I’ve always been a Halo fan. Since the launch of Halo: Combat Evolved, I’ve been incredibly passionate about the Halo franchise. However, I never really got involved in the community until the days of Halo 3. That game allowed players to use Forge for the first time and also review their games in the new theater mode. Like many others, I began taking advantage of this and started taking screenshots. Some staged, but most were not. This is what got me involved in the Halo community and lead me to where I am today.
That being said, I’d like to honor where it all started for me by hosting a monthly screenshot spotlight here, on Ready Up Live. Each month, I’ll pick my top 5 favorite screenshots from Halo 5: Guardians. You can use whatever means you’d like to create them, whether they be staged or candid shots from a match you played. Whatever you need to do to create the perfect shot, you can do it. Get creative and show me what you’ve got!
To submit screenshots for the spotlight, simply head over to XboxDVR.com, find your gamertag and the screenshot you’d like to submit, and post the link as a reply to this thread in the RUL subreddit, along with your gamertag:
Any submissions not done in this way, will not be accepted. This is to help make sure that no one is altering or editing their submissions in any way with programs like Photoshop. All submissions need to be unaltered and created using only the tools available to you within Halo 5: Guardians.
The submission time for this month will be a bit short because of the timing of this posting and because February is short, in itself. However, the top 5 screenshots will be spotlighted and posted to the front page on the last weekend of every month, along with a link to the next month’s submission thread.
I’ve taken dozens of screenshots over the years. All the ones you see here, are my personal favorites and perhaps my most famous. Including “Terror Evolved”, which is the image at the beginning of this post. You might recognize them, or you might not. In either case, I hope they inspire you!
I urge you to take your time with this. It requires patience. Bring it down to frame-by-frame, if you have to. There just may be some hidden gems in those frames. It’s your time to shine now, so get busy and show me, Ready Up Live, and the rest of the Halo community what you can do!
