PRESS START…. – DO DO DO DO! …..Man, I really need to work on my entrances, I think it simply lacks the finesse our YouTube videos have.. ANYWAYS! Hello Ready Up Live! It’s your one and only Chief Executive Officer Josh, or if you prefer Rebel Rouser, here with the weekly RUL beat!
I’m definitely looking at making these a weekly occurrence filled with round-ups, columns by your beloved staff and of course my own insane ramblings! I’ve permanently enlisted our editor Tyler for our ICYMI! (In Case You Missed It!) section, and this week specifically I’ve enlisted the help of Dustin “Drax” Dailey to bring you our first column! Drax is going to be sharing a fairly personal column this week about his fives years of time as a member of the site so be sure to give it a read!
I suppose I should probably talk a bit more about the return of the Community Updates. Time and time again I’ve promised much the same, but we’re coming back with a new form that means we can absolutely support a weekly community update! I think that’s something we should all be excited for! It means you get more time with me,
and that means you’ll eventually succumb to Stockholm syndrome….just like the staff! our wonderful team and get informed of the who, what, & when around our community! You can expect the Ready Up Live Community Update to be delivered fresh off the press to our front page late every Friday night (Yes, I’m aware it’s past midnight where I live, but SHUSH!)
Now that you’re filled in on the hot details about the new community updates let me drag your focus to Drax’s article on his five years here. In a lot of ways it’s touching for me to read, and I’m sure many of you will feel the same way.
5 Years – That’s half of a decade.
That’s how long I’ve been a member of Ready Up Live.
That’s absolutely crazy to me.
It’s hard to believe that just over 5 years ago, I didn’t know any of you. To be honest, I didn’t even know what RUL was, or even that it existed at all.
In February of 2011, Halo: Reach was still going strong. I played it regularly and almost every night. With the recent departure of Bungie from Microsoft, the reigns for Halo had been passed over to the newly formed 343 Industries. On one of those cold February nights, 343 decided to host a community game night and, as luck would have it, I managed to get in for a couple of games. It was in those games, that I met Greenskull. We all know how convincing that guy can be, so it wasn’t long before he got me interested in his small, but growing community. I signed up the next day.
Since then, I have managed to grow from a community member to where I am today, Content Lead. I’ve seen Ready Up Live grow from being a small forum community, to what it is now, which is beyond impressive. However, despite it’s growth, it’s still maintained that feeling of being a close family. That is what RUL has become to me. This community is like my second family. I’ve made friends and connections here that I will never forget, as well as memories and experiences that would have never happened to me otherwise. I’m incredibly proud of what this community has become since I first joined up 5 years ago. At risk of making myself sound incredibly old, I’ll say that it’s been fun to watch not only the website evolve and change over time, but it’s members as well.
Being able to put a face to a name is always helpful and more often than not, it helps solidify that bond you’ve made online. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to meet most of the staff here at RUL, by going to PAX Prime for the past 3 years and am going again this year. Let me be the first to tell you that PAX has given me some of the best times of my life. Every year is a blast and I highly encourage anyone and everyone to go! I’m sure you’ve seen our photos and vlogs. Saying it’s a “good time” is an absolute understatement.
I’m incredibly grateful for the past 5 years and the wonderful memories that RUL has given me. We’ve always been centered around Halo and that’s always been the one thing that unites us. We love this game and community that surrounds it. I’m proud to be a part of it and if the past 5 years have taught me anything, it’s that diving into your passions can lead to great things. I can’t wait to see where RUL goes from here and I’m not going anywhere.
If I do, #BlameRebel. (#BlameRebel? Oh lord… please tell me it’s not making a return! – Josh)
We’ve always been committed to making a community of friends. I don’t know how much RUL has personally affected many of you, but I hope it has touched your lives in much the same way it has Drax’s. Here’s to another five Dustin! <3
I’ve also have to fully agree with Drax on his statements about PAX Prime. At some point, if you can afford yourself the opportunity to go I can only recommend it. I think it’s very easy for anyone who’s gone be it as staff, or as community members can tell you that it’s truly a defining experience. Once you go, you do realize just how much of a true family RUL is. I really hope to see more of you come in the years to come!
So I’m sure you’d noticed we’ve been much more on top of our news and content production recently! One of the biggest parts of my community updates going forward will be from Tyler (Zerty). At the end of every community update we’ll provide an awesome round of the news we’ve done for the week, and maybe even little bits of news we may have missed!
