It’s just been announced by Playstation that their upcoming virtual reality headset, aptly named “Playstation VR”, will launch in October of this year at USD $399 / CAD $549 RRP.
On the matter of the later-than-expected release date, Playstation’s President & CEO Andrew House said:
“That is a bit later than the timeframe we previously stated, and I want to thank everyone for their patience and continued support. PlayStation VR represents a transformative experience in gaming, and we wanted to take the time needed to launch with a broad variety of content and a sufficient supply of hardware. We are beyond excited to deliver to consumers the amazing experience that PS VR offers.”
The final consumer version of PS VR was also revealed as below:
Playstation expects more than 50 PS VR games to become available between October’s launch and the end of 2016. All PS VR owners will be able to download Playroom VR from the PlayStation Store for free at launch. The first-party Playroom VR will include six games that “can be enjoyed with friends and family”, showing off some of the exciting capabilities of the hardware in a shared environment.
It’s an historic time to be a gamer, with cross-network functionality emerging and huge innovations in VR – stay tuned for more as it emerges!
