Two of the heroes considered most overpowered by the Overwatch community, McCree and Widowmaker, have recently received some nerfs (and buffs) by Blizzard following a few weeks of speculation. In an announcement yesterday, Community Manager Lylirra broke down the changes made to the gunslinger/sniper duo.
McCree’s revolver, the Peacekeeper, has taken a rather significant damage nerf from 70 to 45, which amounts to a 35.7% drop in base damage. The time before he begins to reload has been reduced as well, from 0.75 seconds to 0.3 seconds.
The base damage of Widomaker’s scoped shot, that is her sniper rifle with no charge time, has been reduced from 15 to 12 damage. The damage multiplier from charging her sniper rifle has remained the same. Blizzard has also increased the incentive to make skilled shots, increasing the headshot multiplier from 2x to 2.5x. Players must now also wait for the Widowmaker’s unscoping animation to fully finish before being able to rescope, presumably to decrease quickscope kills. Finally, Widowmaker has received a nerf to her ultimate, with the cost of Infra-Sight increasing by 10%.
In addition to balance changes for McCree and Widowmaker, Blizzard has released a variety of bug fixes in the latest Overwatch patch, which can be viewed on the battle.net post. The fix is already out on PC, and will be coming to consoles some time in the future.
