Are you ready to gather your best bros and have a brotastic time on Xbox? Well then, Super Dungeon Bros promises to provide a rockin’ good time. You’ll embark on a quest from the gods of rock with four heavy metal heroes, Axl, Lars, Freddie, and Ozzie, each of which have their own very distinct personalities. You can play on your own or with up to 4 friends. But let me just say that this game is even more fun when you’ve got your bros by your side, mainly because you get to fling them off ledges or even chuck them at attackers.
While at PAX West, the RUL crew had the opportunity to test out this rock n’ roll themed dungeon brawler that was quite fast paced and action packed. There was a little bit of a learning curve at first to understand all of the controls, but once we got the hang of it, we were able to raid through the dungeons of Rökheim mostly destroying everything in sight to get loot, well except when I kept needing my bros to revive me. Yeah, you’ll learn real fast that there’s spikes popping up everywhere and even the most metal of bros can only withstand so much. But, as we quickly learned, teamwork was key to defeating foes and making it through some tricky puzzles.
My first impression when playing this at PAX was that the style is reminiscent of Castle Crashers, but this game has so many additional elements to make it completely unique. In this game you can’t always go off on your own because you’ll need to work with your bros to make it through the levels. Here are some other thoughts from the RUL Crew that got to test it out at PAX as well:
Guitarguy- With Dungeon Bros, I got to experience the thrill of dying all over the place in a messy fun fest of argumental teamwork, picking up my teammates and throwing them off to who knows where. These games bring people together, and that’s one of the best things to ask of them.
Rebel Rouser- Having had a chance to play Super Dungeon Bros at PAX West, I can’t help but make comparisions between it and Diablo, as it certainly seems inspired by the famous RPG. With four player cooperative gameplay, different weapon types and abilities, as well as the requirement for gamers to work together to complete puzzles, Super Dungeon Bros has fallen on my radar as a must pick up title for 2016.
Foundation Afro- If you’re going to grab a bunch of friends and play a video game, Dungeon Bros is certainly a good one to choose. It’s really easy to co-operate, without even having to talk and figure out a plan of action. Which is good, because the speed of the game and the craziness going on at any one time makes it nearly impossible to plan out a course of action! Even once all enemies are dispatched and all treasure is picked up, the tension is still high with the danger bar slowly creeping up to full.
Super Dungeon Bros will feature exclusive cross-platform support for Xbox One and Windows 10 and Playstation 4 to PC & Mac. So, if you’re up for the challenge, just make sure to always live by their motto, “Bros B4 Foes!”
