Bungie has broken their silence and officially confirmed the sequel to 2014’s Destiny, Destiny 2. They announced the sequel on Twitter with a lone image of the number 2 over what appears to be a city under attack. Fans of the game will immediately recognize the city as the Last City, which is the last safe city on earth that is protected by The Traveler.
Bungie shared another photo on their Facebook page showing the Last City burning underneath the Traveler. Looks like it is no longer safe. This announcement comes on the eve of Bungie’s final event for Destiny 1 called “The Age of Triumph” – a final send off for Destiny 1 encompassing almost every activity in the game.
Although this is not the first time Bungie has mentioned that there will indeed be a sequel. The only prior mention and acknowledgement of the sequel, by Bungie, was back in March 3rd when they announced that only cosmetic details from Destiny 1’s create-a-character screen will carry forward to the sequel. Activision did announce in February through their earnings report that a full Destiny sequel is expected to arrive in 2017.
