New Content on the Way for Civilization VI Digital Deluxe Edition

The Digital Deluxe Edition for Civilization VI was originally announced with two DLC leaders and some scenarios to go along with them. The first of these was Poland, released in December of last year, and the second was Australia, released back in February. Today, 2K and Firaxis announced that three new leaders and two new civilizations will be coming for free to anyone who has the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game.

Although we don’t know who they are yet, we do know that the civs will be coming from Africa and Southeast Asia. Additionally, the fact that there are three leaders and only two civs at least one civilization will have an additional leader, or one of the new leaders will go to an existing civ. So far, the only civilization that exists with two leaders is Greece, which can be played by Pericles or Gorgo.

Poland was the first DLC leader for Civilization VI

Two leaders or civilizations we might see are Shaka of the Zulus, and Genghis Khan of Mongolia. Both are leaders we’ve seen in every Civilization game to date, and have yet to appear in Civ VI. Additionally, both civilizations existed in areas hinted at in the recent announcement. The Zulu Kingdom existed in southern Africa, and the Mongol Empire stretched deep into southern Asia during its heyday, despite Mongolia being further north today. Civilization VI may skip these leaders entirely for new ones in the same empire, however. Alexander the Great, another leader we saw appearing in every previous main-series game, is unlikely to return, unless Greece is given three total leaders. It isn’t a stretch to assume that more returning civs will be getting brand-new leaders.

The additional civilizations and leaders haven’t been given an official release date yet, other than “the coming months”. The DLC will also include two new scenarios, most likely relevant to the two new civs. The new content, as well as the previous two DLC civs, will be available for free to anyone who owns the Digital Deluxe Edition of Civilization VI or purchases it in the future.
