RUL’s Weekly(ish) Update 1/8/18 – New Year, Old Habits

Happy 2018, Ready Up Live! We hope you’ve all had a fantastic holiday break and New Year celebrations, and we’re kicking off 2018 with a long-overdue Weekly(ish) Update!

Yes, I know it has been far too long since our last update, apparently our old habits of deviating from our Weekly Update schedule really do die hard. So, what’s new? Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been and gone, bringing with it a very popular spoiler discussion chat on our Discord. Personally, I think the worst spoiler moment was seeing how Darth Jar Jar killed Dumbledore at the battle of Sigma Octanus IV, but that’s just my opinion. Make sure to dip into the chat and share your thoughts on the biggest Star Wars moments of the year!

We’ve also been hard at work planning some big new things for 2018 including some exciting fresh content ideas, updates to our Discord format and more on the horizon very soon…

To ring in the new year, I thought it would be good to pick the brains of a few members of our team and bring you their well wishes for 2018!

Dan “Greenskull” – Founder/General Kingpin

It’s been a turbulent year. Through all of the ups and downs, there was always a constant in my life: The RUL community. Our Discord has become a place to celebrate achievements and a place to bond with friends new and old. Ready Up Live continues to be an anomaly in the internet space. There are few places I can visit any time of day and engage in friendly chatter with people from around the world. From my family to yours, I hope you had the happiest of holidays and a wish you a fantastic 2018.

Mat “Mar” – Community Coordinator/String Sorceror

As one of the guys that oversees a lot of your interactions, I feel like it’s really important for me to say this. RUL is known to be one of the friendliest places on the internet, and you have done a great job in providing such an atmosphere for everybody. Debates are sincere and genuine, newcomers are greeted with open arms; the success of one turns into a celebration of many with the support of so many people that I am proud to call a weird, inclusive, completely outrageous, and just plain fantastic family. We’ve all come together for the holidays in one way or another through games or chat, and there’s no better people I’d rather have enjoyed this with. I’m extending my best wishes for a very joyful new year. Let’s make it a good one.

Brandon “Potts” – Content Producer/Discord Genie

2017 was my first full year spent with the RUL community and my first months as part of the team. We live in a day and age where toxcicity, especially on the internet, is more rampant than ever. But after spending this last year with the community and getting to (allegedly) meet many of you at PAX, it’s clear that Ready Up Live is a shining outlier. We’ve grown a lot in this last year, but as big as the community gets, it remains a welcoming place of friendliness and support thanks to the incredible people that stick around. Here’s to the next ten years! <3

Carr “Foundation Afro” – Content Producer/Civilization Crusher

2018 is going to be a lot of fun. Ready Up Live is changing all the time, and I think some big changes are going to be happening this year. I won’t get into it… we don’t even really know what’s going to happen, and it’s fun to get a bit of a teaser out. But be prepared for a lot of new stuff to come from RUL in the future.

This is also going to be my second year with Ready Up Live. And by “second” I do mean second as a member of the team, because I’ve been a member of this awesome community since 2012. Maybe the Mayans were right, and the world did end in 2012. That is at least, the boring non-RUL world I used to be a part of. I love this community! I’ve seen in change a lot in the time I’ve been here, and it’s been really exciting being in the middle of it these last couple years. I’ve gotten a lot of experiences I never thought I would have gotten, but as always, the friends are the best part of it. PAX 2017 was only a few months ago, and that whole time I’ve been looking forward to PAX 2018. The friendships will always be the main part of it, and if they’re not, well I may as well just pack up and leave.

Here’s to RUL in 2018, and in 2019, and in 2552. I look forward to every second of it.

With 2017 over and 2018 just getting started, I couldn’t be more excited. I can tell that the coming year is going to be a big one for not only myself, but also for RUL as a whole. I hope you’re ready!

2017 was of course a very significant year for us all, marking ten years since this community was created and a celebration of the friendships we have forged. Many of us have found a second home in this community and certainly many friends for life. I couldn’t ask for more than I have here on RUL and I am honoured to continue to serve as Editor into 2018 as we continue to work towards greater heights, and stronger friendships. My life wouldn’t be the same without this community and through the screenshots I see, the conversations we have and the games we play, I am reminded every single day of why I continue to be here.

On behalf of the entire RUL team I’d like to thank you all for being a part of this wonderful, daft and crazy thing we have here. I hope you’ve had a fantastic time with us in 2017 and will continue to do so into the new year and beyond.

See you on the interwebs, Ready Up Live.
