“066 do you copy?†The pelican’s lights were scanning over the dark field. The ground reflected the light in some dark pink and red places. It was scattered with bodies, but the Spartan team was no where in sight. “I repeat 066 do you copy?†The pilot sighed and turned to his navigator.
“Alert the General, we’re going to need clearance to power up the trackers.†The navigator pressed a button and a flat screen rolled down from a slot in the ceiling, the General’s face appeared. “What is it Corporals?†He sounded annoyed; he lit up a cigar and sighed. “…Sir, we lost contact with the Commander’s team, they’re nowhere to be found, we request permission to activate the tracing beacons.†The troop were still hopeful, the team of Elite Spartans couldn’t be dead.
The General was hesitant, his mind running across the possibilities of the beacons turning against them. “Corporal, you do know that if we activate the beacons, the enemy can pick up the signal too.†The General grimaced. “Yes sir, we’re aware of that, but we’re hoping we’re closer, and can get to them first.†The General took a minute to consider. “Alright, but hurry, I’ll send some extra help to speed up the search, General Wiggles out.†The screen went black and slid back into the ceiling. “Wiggles.†The corporals laughed. “What a name to have in the military, imagine when he was Sergeant. “Sergeant Wiggles, what’s the situation?†They both exploded with laughter. “Alright, let’s do this.†The Navigator pressed another button and the screen came back down, four dull, unflashing red beacons lit up the screen, one was lit up the tracing beacons for the Spartan team; one of them was unknowingly equipped with one.
A yellow flashing hologram appeared on the snow, and an ODST team quickly launched out of the pelican and charged over to the beacon. The Captain slowly followed. “Captain, this is all that’s left.†The ODST held up cracked sniper rifle missing its barrel, with an armored hand still holding on to the grip. Several of the soldiers took off their helmets and threw up.
