View Full Version : Halo 3 ODST Compared to Halo 3

Now everybody knows about the new upcoming peice of greatness Halo 3: ODST orignally named Halo 3: Recon, created by Bungie. Bungie has often refered to the release date to be sometime the fall of 2009, so in fact it won't be to long.

But there are some things that interest me more than the new guns new maps and being an awsome ODST who just so happened to live. (We don't know about any others.) Now it's going to be first-person shooter just like halo don't worry for those of you who don't already know but in a way bungie said expect changes.

In Halo 3 you're THE Master Chief, amazingly strong fast and almost unstoppable, except for those Mthic level goers. You could bust in pull out that assult rifle, battle rifle... heck even the pistol depending on your difficulty level set in the campaign.

In Contrast last I heard from bungie, in ODST your not Master Chief. (it's okay to cry) Your not going to be fast and strong like master chief either. In other words your weak, suck it up. In ODST your going to have to pick your fights carefully because your not going to be able to always win them now, and to that your all by yourslef, (for all we know.) In conclusion this means other than sometimes just sneaking around your enemy like a super stealthy ninja (should be interesting, must say) I think that your going to have to use your mind a little big more to find out how. how = how to kill that dude with the really big hammer, how to blow up the prowler, how to not get shot. I'm really excited to see how things are going to be like.

Sorry for the long post, it just seems to be my thing. Anyway I hope you voice your opinons, corrections, anything you think should be said. I have required all this information from b.net and just common sense. But the main point was to give a little show at what ODST is anticipated to be, or maybe not anticipated but....well not anticipated for some.

Edit2: Reading the article from the first new link (Ascendant Justic) it seems that ODST goes farther back than many people thought. For those halo fans who like the story line and not just the action (me personaly) will find this a great oppertunity to get into Halo's dirty past and see what she's been hiding from us this whole time.

Yea, i'm wondering how brutes are going to be able to handle the change. I mean there so use to getting kicked in the face.... now the back when they don't see it coming? This is going to be hard.

Anyway Glad you read the whole thing.
Some good links i'm going to add to the orignal post:

Yeah, it should be interesting, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

One question of mine though is how will the health system work? Regeneration like CoD/GoW? Or possibly old style health system like Halo 1(probably not, but i'd actually like that)

Excellent post, from what I gathered, It might even be possible that you not only play one character, but a group there of. But, I still can't wait for it to hit the shelves; got my copy on reserve :p

Yea, from reading the Article it seems a whole squadron went down. Either like you said differnt characters (which will be a first for bungie) or you might get some back-up later on in the story line.

And about the health system, It's probably going to be just the orignal halo way, and yet there are some things that say differ. Like in halo 2 we learned Master cheif's shields were acquired by that one machine in the armory at the beging of the story plot. So this differs what bungie can concoct for the Orbital drop shock trooper.

To answer your question, you might refer to the GI (Game Informer) featuring Halo 3: ODST. According to that article, your character, a fairly green ODST, will wake up several hours after crash-landing in New Mombasa. By then, the other members of his squad have pursued earlier events in the story's timeline. Upon arriving at certain areas where there has been an obvious battle (usually marked by destroyed vehicles and various weapons lying about), you will promptly be flashed back into time and put into that member's shoes to see the situation play out, hours before the main story. Depending on the character, you will be given certain weapons and possibly certain quirks.

Other details regarding the ODST's difference from playing as the Master Chier include: No motion detector, and the loss of the ability both to jack vehicles and to dual-wield weapons. Those are the less obvious changes, the others have all been pointed out.

Wow, that's pretty interesting, and the hijacking part will be missed if that's true i'm sure. Can I ask where you acquired this knowledge of ODST? I would like to edit it into the main post for anyone wanting to check it out themselves. (will give credit)

Edit: Oh wow im really dumb. I should check that out and post the link for anyone who wants to see it.

Game Informer, like he said....

I want to say that Bungie has confirmed a regenerating health bar. I don't remember where I read that though.

So it still has a health bar though, as opposed to just immediate hit damage? I'd like to see a health system that can be regenerated but not fully or just pretty slowly.

That I could see.... you stand up to see where the enemy is and one spike grazes you and you full down dead. It would bring a new to do things though.
