First, I know it's a cheesy title. Second I decided to take this from one of my Bungie.net threads and revamp it a little. I made this as many people were confused to why Bungie changed these maps: Snowbound, Epitaph, The Pit, Sand Trap. I will explain why I believe so....
Well anyway as you may have known several maps were revised in Halo 3 awhile back just to add a new mix to the game.....
Well I have pieced together that a few of them were added just to fix some maps (DUR!!) whereas others where added to stop HLG.
Snowbound was an okay map. But honestly I know for a fact it wasn't anyone's favorite map. But it was a safe map. If someone had the lead, it wasn't going away anytime soon. Boundless I believe was added to spice up the map, add sort of "danger" to Snowbound and make it less of a camping map.
Sand TARP was made I believe for Multi Flag CTF to make it harder to cap the Flag.
Pit Stop was made to stop HLG from being used on the Pit and primarily in Doubles and Objective I'm guessing.
Epilogue is kind of troublesome. Partly because of the camping that was proven almost invincible in Lone Wolves and FFAs, Doubles. Also to reduce the strength of the Rockets as they were overpowered especially in Lone Wolves. Also in Love Wolves 1-2 players got the advantage and were closer to Rockets whereas no one would go for Gravity Hammer until later which kind of destroyed the map's layout purpose. Lastly I believe was to move the Brute Shot as it was being used heavily for HLG in that specific area.
Boundless is a complex and advanced map that has exceeded the playground that was Snowbound.
Sand TARP is harder and less fun as the Elephant is gone but it adds more tactics to the "dry" map that is Sand Trap.
Pit Stop too many was a something we all foresaw, the building spawn was loved by many but someday it just had to go and the time had come. In April MLG Pit(Stop) v6 will be used instead of MLG Pit v5 and the only gametype and map that can use the spot tactically is Neutral Assault on the Pit in the Objective Playlist (I still use it to hide bomb = ).
Epilogue I believe is a bad map. It is more advanced than Epitaph but I believe when you become more advanced and utilize items more efficiently, the Sniper, Camo, and Bubble Shield trump the Overshield, Brute Shot, and even the Rockets if your team passes them up. When play frequently you can "see" Camo to the point that it sticks out like a sore thumb in lit up places. So Overshields and Customs are indeed better but only on some maps like Guardian.
And I guess that's all, enjoy.
