Okay so I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about this game and almost did not buy it. That would have been a HUGE mistake. This is one of the most innovative games of our time and I don't mean that lightly. You would be hard-pressed to find another game like this out there.
I'll start with saying that there are an incredible amount of ways you can assassinate people or get to the top of the highest building. First off you can sneak up behind someone and stab them or throw a knife in their back without drawing attention and walk away, you can create a huge sword fight involving guards and finish them all off, you can jump down kill your target and then flee and then jump in a haystack to hide or do it a variety of other ways.
The way you go from building to building is called free-running. It is one of the most fun things I have done in a video game. You can go from blending in with the crowd, to walking slowly, to running, to sprinting as fast as lightning. Then you climb a building, jump on a pole and hide in a roof guarden and the guards are dumbfounded. A lot of my time on this game is spent running around. That is one thing I have heard bad about this game: The length. The length of the story could probably be short if you went through the main assassinations quickly, but that is no fun. There are over 60 side quest assassinations, guards you can kill everywhere and flags to collect. I could see myself playing this game months from now.
Their are a variety of flags sprawled acrosss the entire map. For each road and city you have to collect 25-100 flags. The story for this game is excellent so far and I have heard it will be a trilogy. Their is a shocker in the very beginning of the story that makes the story more interesting.
Overall I have heard that this game sometimes gets repetitive, and I could see that happening, but seriously with all the other games that are out and coming out all you would have to do is take a break. Everytime I have come back to playing this game I have done something new and some of your kills are so stylized it seems like a movie.
Honestly if you are thinking of buying this game, do it and you won't be dissapointed. If you are worried about the length, trust me once you play it you won't be anymore because of all the side things you can do. The achievements are very fun to get and to get them all would take a fairly long time. Ultimately I would give this game a 9.7/10

I agree with most of what your saying, the thing i didn't like is looking for flags! i will never get those kind of achievements in games because i just don't have the patience. 9.2/10

Yep thats why I made it. Some people read the reviews where this game got a bad rep and there not true. Don't want anyone to miss out on this from just that

The game overall is well done. I don't know about a 9.7/10.. 8.7/10 is more reasonable, in my opinion.
There are quite a few kinks in the game that should have been fixed prior to release. Falling through maps, and doubling up (another Altair that mimics your moves), and achievements unlocking for no apparent reason.. to name a few.
On the plus side, I loved climbing, and gliding from roof to roof. The combat was really fun and entertaining.
After finishing the game, the way the story was left the sequel should be awesome.
ps.
Also, having achievements to get 400+ flags is very annoying. Just as it was collecting the orbs in Crackdown. It's as if the developers don't have any more ideas, and put in these senseless achievements that require collecting something..At least killing Templars has something to do with the story and Altair's hate towards them.

ps. I have 99/100 in the Kingdom..
i havent experienced the glitches yet but that would bring down my rating. It also is very annoying how the guards can climb about as well as altair but it makes the chase fairly fun.

Don't get me wrong, the chances of that happening to you are slim to none. I just mean it's something that, should've been/should be, dealt with immediately.
The immense battles you can have with 25+ guards, in my opinion, definitely make up for the games short comings (like collecting flags :().

oh. This game looks awsome and it was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive but 360 owns so ya :)

November 25th, 2007, 03:47 PM
Either that or.. because 360 dev units are a lot cheaper, and the tools available to devs from Microsoft make it that much easier.

plus 360 has WAYYYYYYY more consoles out than ps3 so it doesnt make sence to keep it a PS3 exclusive

I rented the game instead of buying it but i like it. Its still gona be on my christmass list because even though i have beat it there is alot more to unlock and its fun just running around doing stuff. In my oppinion this game would deserve a 9/10.

Just rented it and I really like it. I spend the whole time free running and fighting guards, but haven't been able to find a big group of them to get a real challenge.

I don't regret my purchase; the game was well worth the money!
Being 32, and having a career, I don't get to actually complete many games... this is only the second game I've beaten this year (Bioshock being the first)... so that tells you how much I enjoyed this one!
When I first read IGN's review, I was a little worried (who wouldn't be?) but now that I've played it through for myself, I can safely say it's one of the years best!
I also enjoyed the achievements in this one (but like a few others, I won't be getting the flag ones... there's too many flags to collect).
To those sitting on the fence on this one, go out there, and give it a rent - you might be pleasantly surprised!
If I had to compare the game, I would say it would be something like a mix between Final Fight and classic Prince of Persia, just in 3D.
a rock solid 8.5/10... the sequel should be even better!

To be honest...most of you guys who are giving this game 9.0 and higher, I strongly disagree.
The #1 reason as to why game sites gave this game low ratings (like in the 7's and 8's) know that this game wasn't as good as they hoped because of one major flaw:
REPETITIVENESS
Have you even noticed how ridiculously repetitive the objectives are when you have to do the investigations before assassinating your target? It's the same thing every. single. time.
Nonetheless, I'm not saying this game is horrible by any means, I liked it a lot, but it didn't reach its true potential. 3 noticeable things I really hated:
- repetitive objectives
- protagonist's voice
- the storyline (especially the ending)
- somewhat repetitive fighting system (can't say I hated it, just thought it was decent)
Overall: 8.3/10

Whoever gave this game a 9.0+ or 9.5+ out of 10 is sadly mistaken.
Sure the game has nice graphics, amazing gameplay and innovation, but can't you guys see how damn REPETITIVE the game is? I mean one city to next, you're doing the same boring objectives every time just to find info on the target. And there's not even a variety of objectives, they're just a few and can be done in 2 mins. I'm not a fan of the story either.
At most, I love the game, but I would give it 8.5
