One of the new features that will be coming with the dashboard update on December 4th will be the release of ‘Friends of Friends.’ With this new feature, you’ll be able to browse the friends list of anyone on your Xbox LIVE friends list and send anyone on your friends list a friends request. We’re also adding a ‘Friends List’ setting in the Dashboard* and on Xbox.com to allow you to control who can see your friends list.
-Everyone (only available to members 18 and older)
-Friends only (available to members 13 and older)
-Blocked (available to all members, and automatic for anyone under the age of 13)
You can change it now by going here. (http://live.xbox.com/en-us/accounts/friendsoffriends.aspx)
Also, Microsoft reportedly confirmed the news to the Official Xbox Magazine, and revealed its biggest new feature as a service to let you download original Xbox titles like Halo.
Eventually it will make as much of its back catalogue available as possible, but for now the line-up includes Halo, Fable, Fahrenheit, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex and Burnout 3.

THey cant announce the best thing the first day im sure there is something awesome. THey have been working on it a LONG time and they have to keep the excitement up. This is cool, and they are probably just trying to build the interest. There will be something worth looking forward to im sure.

I don't like it. I'll have it turned off. Don't want people getting gamertags from my friends who's gamertags are pretty secret like Bungie people, MS people, etc.

It's a good idea, but it could cause some problems like with what Greenskull said.

I also heard talk about PVR integration coming in this update. For ppl who dont know what a PVR is, its a Personal Video Recorder, which records tv (in this case) directly into your 360 hard drive. I'm going to use this feature to its limits if this info is true....i watch shows like Dexter, Curb your Enthusiasm it would be great to record it.....

It's nothing... that can't be seen when looking at people arranged games on bungie.net halo stats, I even found bill gates secret little gamertag there among others while looking at certain people's arranged games :P.
