I was going to save this for this weeks QOTW but I figured it would probably fit better in the music chat thread and with all that's been going on in the thread I thought now may be a good time to have posted this. It's fairly simple, just post a mere story of who or what affected your musical prefrences throughout your life that made your taste what it is today, now I really don't want this to turn into a major flame thread about various genres as some other ones have but simply for everyone to gain an understanding of where everyone comes from in a sense.

For me I have had 2 major influences those being my sister and my deep disliking of the norm, since I was young I had listened to similar if not the same type of music as my sister, I honestly can't explain as to why I just felt as though at the time of me being younger that she was really informed on good music whether it was or not is up to opinion, that was until one year she got into what many of you would classify as "emo" and "screamo" and for some reason that genre stuck with me with the diffrent sounds in each song and somewhat good lyrics and that is why today I appreciate the sound of that particular genre another reason being my disliking is due to me hating seeing everyone as a carbon copy of one another and wanting to not be apart of that, it got to the point one time that I really like P!ATD pre- I Write Sins and as soon as they obtained a popularity that everyone started to sing that song I instantly released them from my top bands and found a newer one, granted they didn't sound any worse of diffrent it was just the fact that I may become abnormal in a way as weird and crazy as that sound's. Now for any of you i'm actually truly interested in why you may appreciate an artist such as Kid Cuddi over David Bowie or something else crazy, also this doesn't mean their won't be a QOTW tomorrow so be on the lookout for that.

Anything influences who or what I listen to. How did I get to like screamo/emo? My cousins. Classic/metal? Some of my friends and some in my family. I think it mostly depends on who you hang out with and who certain people in your family listen to. I dont get into rap, country, pop, etc. because nobody that I really like or know listens to them, not that I oppose them.

Well I got into metal when I first heard the song For Whom The Bell tolls by Metallica
Though recently I have started to listen to some rap (Eminem, Tupac) I believe though if you like the music play the music. I can thank my brother for getting me into some rap but I got into metal by myself

The first real band I ever listened to was Linkin Park. I was fairly young and didn't listen to music. For christmas, my uncle got me Linkin Park Meteora.

Then future likings sprang from hearing them on the radio.

Then again the most recent stuff has been from my friend's influences like 3oh! 3 and Cobra Starship.

I used to just listen to whatever music was played. But one day, my friend showed me System of a Down and after that I started looking for my own good music. Had he not shown me them I would not be listening to the fantastic music I do know. I listen to many genres, screamo, metal, alternative, rock, some rap, etc. I do try to stay away from very main stream bands, although there are a few I like, and I show many of my friends the "indie"/"underground" music that I find (most of which is WAY better than most mainstream music). Without music I would not be who I am.

Yeah, I also got really into Linkin Park way back, but I really like their album Minutes to Midnight and I think they're still good. :)
