I posted this article on my site and I thought I should post it here too.

Do you remember that one new micro-console that will connect pc gamers with the actual console gamers? Me neither. Until I was reminded on another site that they are planning to release a little later this year. Here is the description from Game Informer on OnLive:

http://gameinformer.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/00.00.00.00.06/0172.onlive.jpg

OnLive, the in-development digital-only gaming platform, hasn`t been in the spotlight much recently. That could be for good reason, however. The company has apparently been busy securing a large slice of financial support from some very interested investors.

The nice chunk of change comes from AT&T Media Holdings Inc, Luder Partners, Warner Bros., Autodesk and Maverick Capital. OnLive is describing the monies received from the companies as "rocket fuel" to spur along OnLive`s Beta process.

OnLive seems very determined to change the retail face of the industry, with the elimination of physical media being the overarching goal. The securing of these heavyweights' funds solidifies the fact that other influential players want to see this happen, also.

Ready or not, it appears OnLive is on its way.

Did I mention that the OnLive multiplayer service is free? It also states that no discs are required. I believe I heard that they don't even download it to memory drives, it is all digital. This may be the new big console to even beat the big 3. Of course time will tell.

If you want more info about OnLive, visit their official site:

Enjoy, Brad Out.

I can't wait for Onlive either. I am very excited about the possibilities.

My question is you said, "OnLive multiplayer service is free?" do you mean online gameplay? if so where did you read this?

Oh yes, I remember they were talking about that something about 2 years ago. but still pc players could just use steam, so they don't have to buy that box and also play free.

I just love the fact that everything is digital. This is the new age of gaming right here!

I've never heard of this, but I'll be sad to see the disks go. I love having them and adding to my collection. This is the same reason I don't like buying music from iTunes and other places.

That is true. It is fun having stacks of games around.

It says the games wont use disks or be stored on the device, so doesnt this mean you have to download the game everytime you want to play...

From what I heard. You actually play them straight from the server! No Download needed! This thing is amazing.

It is streamed like youtube videos
Although I don't see this really getting big because you would need some really good connections to stream the games without it becoming laggy

I'm still not totally convinced that digital downloads is the complete future of gaming, plus it would leave out the midnight launch experience, limited editions, and trading/borrowing discs from friends which IMO are an awesome part of the gaming experience.

I'm still dead against digital. I'm slowly coming around, because I've been downloading a lot of Live arcade games of late... but I still don't like it.

I don't consider that I "own" a single one of the arcade games I've paid for, and that feeling of "ownership" is something that makes me feel more of a connection to games in general.

I can look back at my Super NES catridges fondly knowing that that cartdridge and I took a journey together (sounds a bit lame and airy fairy I know.... but hopefully you'll understand my point). Whereas something which exists in digital format only I have no connection with.

Both of you nailed my feelings exactly.
Plus the servers will probably be shut down for these games eventually, meaning that if I ever want to go back and play these games I wont be able to... (I actually go back and play my old games sometimes)

the only download stuff I like is Steam and Live Arcade.

I like Retep's point about midnight launches. Never thought of that.
