Grey Bars

I've noticed this on multiple avatars. There are grey bars on top and bottom of some avatars. I've tried resizing and it stays there. I'm pretty sure it's only for some custom avatars.

Any explanation?

It's because of the width of your image. If its too large, it preserves the aspect ratio so that the image is the clearest possible.

Why does this matter? Its just an avatar size problem.

he are special, he get 125x125

I only uploaded 100x100 because it is the biggest that is allowed (if you aren't greenkskull)

I could be wrong, but it seems that the grey bars fill in at the top and bottom to make it the same height as Green's. Could that possibly be the issue?

I think the bars actually are there to match the size of your postbit. Notice how the people with a taller one have higher bars.
