Dragon v2.0

two days ago i managed to get my hands on the new handheld console of nintendo and have spent a good few hours witht the system itself and one of the launch titles: Rayman 3D
expectations
at first i was skeptical about the 3D capabilties of the 3DS because like what happened with the Wii, we were promised a lot but got very little. Also i was afraid that the 3D effect when putting objects forward it will hide things that are visible normally
The 3D effect
so after i fully charged the 3DS i went and gvae it a spin and my first impressions were better than expected. instead for moving object out of the screen it moves them further back effectively getting rid of the second concern i had about the 3D effect, however what about the 3D itself how apparent was it?
My impression was that the 3D was noticeable, it wasnt very big but there was a sense of depth when the 3D is activated although after a while you get accustumed to the 3D and dont really notice it anymore, i did have one issue with the 3D, when ever an object was pushed forwards out of the screen it would feel really weird on the eyes and the object would not be very visible (it became a fuzz).
it takes some time to get used to the 3D and there is one clear limitation of the method which is used to produce the 3D effect; it only works in certain areas and it is hard to keep the DS in the 3D spot, it some times took me some time to find it again after losing it
the package
with the 3DS also come a few preinstalled games, one is a game which invloved shooting flying faces using the cameras sort of in the style of a arcade shooter where the gun and screen is your DS. The other more interesting game is the augumented reality card games. when activating it you have to 'look' at the card which you get with the DS and play a series of mini-games which are quite enjoyable.
one quirk i have with the DS is the battery life, coming in at 3-5 hours when 3D mode is on which is really short and makes it not as useful for long haul trips unlike its DS counterparts
Final Verdict
Pros
+pretty good 3D, it isnt overpowering, feels natural
+package comes with games that make interesting use of the 2 cameras in the front
+option to turn 3D on or off (or vareing levels of 3D)
+analogue stick
cons
-very short battery life with 3D on
-analogue stick sometimes hard to use when thumb is not in right spot
-limited areas of 3D
-objects coming to the front look 'funny'
final score
8.5/10
a very good handheld console which is unique with its 3D capability, although it has its quirks but they are small in comparision with the pros
P.S.- this was the first time i ever wrote a reveiw any tips are pointers that i should look out for next time?
