In a nutshell, in one of Wheatley's test chambers, Wheatley tries to "motivate" Chell by calling her an "adopted fatty". And while GLaDOS defends her for the purpose of taunting Wheatley, an adopted parent took offense to those lines. (The dialogue is found below.)

An adopted girl at the age of 10 claims that she did not hear this line at the time she was controlling this character but the girl's father felt like it was necessary to contact the media about this.

The father also mentions that P2 is an incredible game.

Also, some things to point out, North Carolina's WBTV did mention that it is a "kid" game and educational as well. Wait, it's educational and made for kids? Sure it's rated E10+ but really?

WBTV has made a followup regarding the response from the viewers of the story.

What are your thoughts? Is it something Valve should have taken into consideration? Or are the parents just overreacting? Or maybe it's something else?

Good on yah random parent; you got your 15 minutes now bugger off.
There is no issue here really. Move on with your day people.

The new program has blown this way out of proportion. They're also showing the clip out of context. If they listened to any of the other dialogue from the game they would see that it's not meant to be taken seriously.

Some people really need to get a life

You can't say ANYTHING without getting someone mad. I feel like adopted people are ok to make mad. At least a lot more than other types of people.

I'm adopted, and when Wheatley said this to me in the game, I almost quit. I was so offended. However, because I was so far into the game, I felt the need to press on, regardless of whether or not the character made me feel horrible for being adopted.

...

Couldn't even type that with a straight face. Truth is, I am adopted, and I still thought the line was one of Wheatley's funniest, especially since it calls back something GLaDOS says in the first game. Some people just need to get their panties untwisted and settle down.

There is no need for a debate here. It's an obvious overreaction and should be treated with a shrug and an eyeroll.

Wow, this is ridiculous.

This man is essentially using his daughter and the fact that she is adopted, in order to get his time in the spotlight. So, who is the real bad guy here?

Here is my argument...Just recently, it was announced that video games are now considered an official art form (http://www.readyuplive.com/showthread.php/6774-Games-Are-Now-Legally-Considered-An-Art-Form). With that said, they fall under the same category as paintings, sculptures, and photography...which are all considered forms of self expression.

So based on that fact, let's form a little hypothetical situation shall we?

Let's say that I happen to be German (I am not) and very proud of my heritage. I go to a museum to view the art and am enjoying myself for hours because of all the wonderful pieces. However, when I near the end, I come across a piece that offends me as a German and rather upsets me. I have every right in the world to be offended and absolutely hate the piece. I can go home and tell my friends and family all about it, but would I go to the media to complain about it and suggest it be taken down? Absolutely not.

It is a piece of art and a form of self expression. Just because I don't like it personally, does not give me the right to suggests it's removal. If we didn't allow media to exist that offends even one small group of people, we would have no TV, no video games, no movies, no art of any kind.

People will do ANYTHING to get time on TV...and it's sad that this parent had to use his child to do so.
