X08 on Global News (featuring Hippo and I!)
Here's some interesting things I learned/impressions:
- The install feature for the dashboard update is only used for speeding up load times. The disk still needs to be in the drive, but it will not spin. I was very upset to learn this.
- The new dashboard update is very interesting! Avatars look like they will be fun to mess around with.
- The 1 vs. 100 games and things like that WILL be available in Canada.
- You're In The Movies is actually very fun! You can't judge it until you play it. It had Hippo, Kowz, and I in tears laughing.
- Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata are super fun! Scanning cards into Viva works super well and is a big leap for the vision cam.
- Battlestations: Pacific was quite a surprise to me! I've never been a fan of those kinds of games but using artillery on my boat to totally dominate the tiny humans on the land was a blast!
- I liked Rock Band 2 better, but Guitar Hero: World Tour's intruments blew RB2's out of the water. The 300 Rock Band drum kit was not impressive at all. The GH drums here amazingly quiet and very fun. I will use those over Rock Band 1's drums any day.
- Gears 2 suprised me with its graphics. They look much better now! I enjoyed flying around with the camera when I died. Made it much less boring. Although it seemed very limited as to where it could go. Not very high at all.
- Cliff was great to talk to! I was chatting with him at the end of the event. He said I have "Super Saiyan" hair and look like a guy from Everwood. Then we somehow started talking about Cowboys in Calgary...
- Shawn White's Snowboarding is a must-buy for me! I came back to it numerous times just to bomb down the hill. It was a very early version but there will be some fun features later. Pressing B throws a snowball and pressing A makes you body check. It will be interesting to see how these features are employed.
- Silent Hill looks super freaky! I will have a tough time playing through it in the dark!
- Duke Nukem 3D for Live Arcade is very cool! When you die you can rewind to any point at all in the level. You can rewind one second before you died if you really want to, or you can just rewind to the beginning of the level. There is also a saved film feature. Stoked for this one!
- Castle Crashers is even more fun than I expected! I didn't know you could move in and out depth-wise. The game is basically a fast, fun, co-op RPG. You change your weapons and level up as you go. When you hit enemies, you see how much damage you dealt. I will have a great time with this one, especially with friends!
- I was VERY disapointed with Portal: Still Alive. All it is is the original Portal with a few extra things. Nothing special at all. I advise against buying this to everyone, unless you have yet to own portal, then by all means, please do.
- After the event, a ton of us went for dinner at a restaurant. Jade had already reserved some spots at the place for us. We had a huge table for the like 20ish people. I chatted with Sinnix, Knuckles Dawson, and HorrHippo while I was there. Unfortunatley I couldn't stay long because I had a flight to catch.
That's my recap! I made it convieniently readable for those with ADD!
