Consider this an expanded instruction manual on how Halo 3 and Bungie.net will work together in Halo 3. It contains everything you need to know about Halo 3, well, almost everything.
Halo 3 Game Guide powered by Silverlight
Forge Basics
In Halo 2 there was a single sniper rifle on Colossus, and it was not so good. One of the new multiplayer features introduced in Halo 3 is the Forge. The Forge is an object layout editor, a tool to allow players to rework the various weapons, vehicles, and scenery that Bungie’s multiplayer designers have thoughtfully placed around Halo 3’s multiplayer maps.
Note: You can not change geometry.
Forge Object Editing
On the surface, the Forge is pretty straight forward. Create fusion coil, hurl at friend, repeat ad infinitum. However, there are some other things that you may choose to make yourself aware of if you wish to master your tools.
Advanced Forge Editing
At some point, players stop making piles of fusion coils, and get serious about setting up their maps. Fortunately, more control is provided. A multiplayer map in Halo 3 is configured almost entirely using objects, and the overwhelming majority of these objects are editable in the Forge.
Saved Films, New ViDOC
The long-awaited pre-launch ViDOC is here and it focuses on oft-discussed features Forge and Saved Films.
Saved Films is a cool new feature implemented in Halo 3.
Bungie.net
With a feature set designed to accompany and expand upon Halo 3’s incredibly rich offering, the changes to Bungie.net are pretty numerous and at a cursory glance overwhelming.
Matchmaking Playlists
In Halo 3’s Matchmaking system, you’ll find a ton of new options and abilities. Now it’s easier than ever to meet people you like, with similar skills and experience.
Networking in Halo 3
Halo 3 benefits from lots of cool Xbox Live and community features. To make the most of those, you’ll need Xbox Live Gold and a broadband network connection. However, it’s still possible to enjoy a Halo network experience without any online access at all, as you’ll see.
Bungie Pro (Expanded Fileshare)
Bungie Pro is a file storage and sharing solution that is not in any way, shape or form integral to your Halo 3 experience. Simply put, it's the expansion of storage for your files, these could be Films, Clips, Screenshots, Map Variants, Gametypes or some combination including some or all of the aforementioned.
Expand your Fileshare space: It'll cost 750 MS Point to change the standard 6 Slots and 25MB Fileshare, into the Bungie Pro 25 slots and 250MB Fileshare.
