. It is definitely going in my list of Must have games for 2011!
Controls: Overall, the controls are very smooth and easy to wrap your mind around. You have two options for controls, Simple and Normal. Simple, as you could imagine, is fairly quick to get around. Most of the combos you can string up are just a button press away. I would recommend this to players who have never played any fighting games before and just still haven’t adjusted to the different environment they were used to. I used the simple controls my first go at the game and wreaked havoc upon the easy CPU. Normal controls are for the more advanced players who are looking for more of a challenge. Normal controls are not hard to learn though with a couple of minutes in the game’s training mode.

Arcade Mode: The arcade mode has to the place where I spend most of my time. I have been very addicted to seeing all of the character’s endings. Capcom did a great job making every ending fit with every character. Such as Arthur’s ending where he saves the princess, like in Ghosts and Goblins, or Deadpool’s where he throws a party and ends up wiping out Cleveland! Seeing the ending is a big sigh of relief since getting to see them is where the challenge is. Fighting the CPU isn’t much of a problem compared to the final boss, Galactus. You start off the fight, fighting clones of he created of other fighters. These fighters aren’t hard to defeat, but they do a number on your chosen characters. Then you move on to fighting Galactus himself, who is about 40 feet tall compared to you. There is no strategy to defeating him since he doesn’t get stunned by any of your hits on him. The only way I’ve been able to defeat him was by spamming buttons and hyper combos. Even though I’m making him out to be a cakewalk, he’s far from it. His attacks are extremely powerful and if you don’t block them, you lose a quarter of your health bar. One of his many attacks, which I hate the most, is where he grabs you with his hands and crushes you with his power. Thank goodness I figured out that you can stop him from doing that move if you spam enough buttons. Don’t let him get your health to zero for all of your characters or you get to see a pretty animation of him crushing the earth with a single clap. Yes, I told you he was 40ft tall when you’re fighting him, but he can change his size to anything he wanted to! Why he doesn’t attack you at a greater size beats me.
Multiplayer: I wish I could have nice things to say about Multiplayer, but this isjust something that I will have a problem with every Fighter title. Ranked matches have to be the hardest things to actually win in. One of my friends told me something that I will have to carry with me for the rest of my days playing Fighter games. “Cheap, or be cheaped!” I cannot get into a game where I don’t encounter somebody hugging the corner of the screen with Chris Redfield or Ryu spamming bullets and [hdkn]s. This has to be one of the only problems I have with the game. What’s the point of playing a game that is fast-paced if all you are going to do is just hide and not even throw a punch? Grrrrrr……..
Thank goodness there are Player matches though. There you can find people who aren’t trying to be super competitive and actually try to be fair. One of the cool features within the game is a license. It tells you, and everyone else, who your favorite characters are, the number of matches you won, the title you have (which you can customize), A sweet picture to go along with your title (which you can customize also), and what Rebel Rouser pointed out, the flag of your country. Also, if you are very competitive and want to keep track of you and your friends score, there is an active leaderboard.
All in all this game has to be the best fighting game released, not just because It’s new, but because it goes places that other fighter games have never gone before. I would recommend this game to anybody! Especially people who have never tried a fighter type genre and are looking for something new.
Final Score:
9.5/10
