Hello Ready Up Live, and welcome to a long overdue RUL Friday Update! I can promise you that there won't be such a long time in between the Friday Updates for a long long time. Exam period is over, school is done, I have the time to ensure we have something each Friday. Why is today's so late? I just wanted to use that title!Well... that and the fact is was Canada Day, I had a bit of celebrating to do on behalf of my country's 144th Birthday. Right, onto the update!
A huge fundamental change in how I'm dealing with the Friday Update. No longer will I be writing this alone, I'll be getting some assistance from KillerofCereal. He'll be writing a weekly blurb to help keep things fun, fresh and interesting. I think we could even expect some other staff blurbs in the future too.
Without further adieu here's Killer's first blurb.
"Hello fellowers! KillerOfCereal here and do you know what today is? It's Friday! (you just began singing that, didn't you?)
ReadyUpLive has been changing ever since I joined back in 2010, and the changes have always been great; each better than the last! I'm not going to point you in the direction on where this ship is heading, but let me tell you that it's looking great! Being on the crows nest for the shortwhile I have, I am in awe! So as Greenskull and Rebel Rouser steer us out of the fog into the Promise Land, we must do all of our parts on helping RUL run at its finest, by staying active. We must all do our parts on keeping this ship clean and finding souls that became lost surfing the sea we know as "The Internet". Enough with the nautical analogies and back to the pressing issues. I know some of you are wondering about awards and how infrequently they're handed out, but worry no more! Awards will now be handed out at a much steadier pace. If you know someone or if you think that deserve a certain award, please message one of the Head Staff explaining what award and why that person should be given said award. If you're naked of awards, here's a thread where you can quickly snag three!
With all of that said, this is KillerOfCereal signing off and wishing all of you Canadians a happy and safe Canada Day! If you're not Canadian and you enjoyed my nautical analogies, a bottle of rum is for ye!"
In terms of awards, I can indeed verify Killer is not joshing you. You can expect more awards to be given out. As he said definitely PM any of the head staff (those scary people with black backgrounds behind their names) with your suggestions on who deserves what awards and we'll come to a conclusion based on our super secret criteria.
You talked, we listened.
I'd like to thank each and every one of you who participated in our request for feedback, we've made a few changes like the community button to help make sure we're heading the right way for our community.
I'm going to first run into something I already announced a while back. That fancy new community button. From that button you can fool around in the Arcade, join Groups that help express who you are as a RULer and more! I'm pleased to announce that the button is expanding again to add a new feature? What could it be? Well you'll just have to read on for a bit before we get to that.
As you may have noticed, typing in the URL for Ready Up Live (http://www.readyuplive.com) has returned to directing you to our frontpage. We've made this change for a number of reasons, a big one of course is the overwhelming response about how you all enjoyed the frontpage.
RUL Events will be happening much more often, I won't say a word as to how often they will be occurring at the time being, but rest assured we will be having significantly more frequent event's in the future. You can mark your calenders for August 26th though, RUL's 4th Birthday. You can expect fun events all day on August 26th! More details are to come once we get closer to the date.
We've done our best to make the site a better place using things requested by you in Speak Your Mind - June 2011. We'll be having quarterly speak your minds for you to voice your opinion. However, if you can think of anything, feel free pass us a immediate suggestion either by posting a thread under "Website Discussion", or by PMing one of the head staff if you'd rather take your suggestions the private route. There's no reason you have to wait until a quarterly thread to spread your ideas.
Alright, the addition to the button. The new feature of the button isn't a feature in the sense of, ohhhhh spiffy, a new feature. It's a feature in the sense it adds some new and interesting content to the site. In the up and coming weeks you can expect a link that says staff to appear under community. This link will take you to a faq where you can learn about RUL's staff. We'll each have an autobiography for you to read to get to know us better. The autobiography's are pretty interesting, so once it's up we'll inform you either with an immediate Community Update, or will time the launch with a Friday Update.
A small update you may have noticed is the Facebook "Like" button, this is more intended to get people who lurk our site to follow us on facebook. If you active members haven't already, what are you waiting for? You could get a fancy award.
The RUL Top 5 is finally out This long awaited feature has been made possible thanks in part to Ye Olde Apple. He stepped up to the plate when we were looking for someone to deal with the project, I think we can expect a glowing future for it. A huge thanks to Jakeyy too, for designing all of the excellent transitions it!
Announcement time.
We're looking into getting a podcast done up for RUL. It's about time the podcast has made it's return. I'll have some more news for you on this in the very near future.
Public Notices:
The site is currently under moderate new users mode, this means if someone registers to the site they have to be approved before they can post. This is to combat a recent targeting by spammers, and spam bots. I have no ETA on when we can life this policy, but we'll inform you when we do. If you get any one to sign up, be sure to let them know that, there's no errors with there signup, it's just our need to moderate new users preventing them from posting.
I know that this isn't used much if at all by RULer's. I don't think it's needed often around here, but I feel that awareness is a good thing. Under every post you can find the Report Post button.
Clicking it will alert every moderator that you believe this post has material in it that is inappropriate for RUL, be it advertising, flaming, something obscene. Someone will rush to the thread and deal with the issue if there is one. If there isn't one don't fret it's not a big deal. However repeatedly calling moderators to the scene over something trivial or silly could incure some form of punishment. Use it when appropriate!
With that, I'm off, it's getting extraordinarily late, and I need my beauty sleep. I hope all of our Canadian RULers had an excellent Canada Day, and I hope our American RULers have a superb, and safe day this upcoming 4th of July.

Well... that and the fact is was Canada Day, I had a bit of celebrating to do on behalf of my country's 144th Birthday. Right, onto the update!
ers! KillerOfCereal here and do you know what today is? It's Friday! (you just began singing that, didn't you?)
