SHOES! If you like it then you shoulda put a ring on it! SO CUTE! These are a few of the many ramblings that the splodalicious Ms. Splosion Man utters while soaring through the many levels of this fun puzzle platformer.
When the seemingly unstoppable Splosion Man is finally caught, the team at Big Science throw a massive party. All seems well, until the unthinkable happens: A bottle is accidentally knocked over. The implied alcoholic beverage pours out onto some cables causing machines to malfunction and the birth of Ms. Splosion Man.
Ms. Splosion Man handles a lot like the first game, but luckily this is a case of "more of a good thing". The game stays true to its roots and is just as wacky and fun as the first instalment. The game tasks you with sploding your way through the various environments. You get three 'splodes'. One to launch you off the ground like a jump, and two to keep you going. You could bounce off walls, kill scientists, or fling yourself with explosive barrels.
A hilarious tutorial video explains how to play the game then sets you off on your adventure. The difficulty curve is perfect. Every once in a while a new concept is brought into play. The game then gives you time to figure it out, play with it, then master it before throwing new challenges at you. The most interesting new feature is ziplines. Every now and then you will come across a glowing blue zipline which you speed along and get thrown off at the end. Some levels have massive sections of connected ziplines that you must jump between making for some fast-paced mayhem. A fan favourite returns...in a way. If you have a laser gun firing at you and blocking your path, simply take control of Mandy. Mandy is a large, woman-shaped robot that cannot be harmed by lasers. Much like the first game, a fun new song plays while you're controling her.
Co-op mode is just as hectic and fun as the first game. The levels are all designed specifically for co-op, requiring at least two players to finish the puzzle. Many of the puzzles will have you (and up to three other friends) scratching your heads and laughing at your failed coordination attempts. You need to be right on time with your teammate to complete many tasks in co-op. Luckily, pressing the left trigger puts a countdown timer on the screen so you can time your splodes with eachother.
The game features many more diverse environments to keep it fresh and it still has you searching for collectibles in every level. This time around you're hunting for shoes. Ms. Splosion Man would have it no other way. After every mission you earn coins which you can use to purchase items from the mall. These items range from videos and artwork to Avatar awards and themes. This system just adds an extra layer of replayability to the game for those trying to unlock everything.
It's a rare feat to have a sequel be so similar to the original game yet have it be fresh enough to warrant a purchase. For fans of Splosion Man or puzzle platformers in general, Ms. Splosion Man is a must-buy!

9/10
