    The Jackson Effect

"When a celebrity or other high profile person who has been accused of being involved in significant illegal activities (i.e. sexual abuse scandals) dies and public opinion of said person becomes overwhelmingly positive despite those past transgressions. Notable examples include: Michael Jackson, Ryan Dunn, Joe Paterno"

Someone needs to write a paper about this.

Nope, I still think Michael Jackson is a whacky person that should have been put in an institution.

I sense you want someone to do your homework

Despite drunk driving perhaps regularly, public opinion on Ryan Dunn has almost always been a positive one. That wasn't changed by his death.

And People shouldn't have been berating Joe Paterno in the first place, the things he did for Penn State were unbelievable and he claims to have told the right people about the scandal. The same goes for Michael Jackson - the public purview of him was only a negative one amidst the child molestation allegations. After they were dropped, people began to realize the amazing things he did for music.

Ryan Dunn basically walked down the road firing a gun at random, it is only luck that kept him from killing other people he is a monster.

Winning football games does not excuse allowing child molestation to occur for 10+ years.

Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix get a lot of undeserved credit because they died in their prime. I still really like them, but they weren't THAT good.

I kinda agree with cookie on this one, at least on the Ryan Dunn part, I don't believe people ever looked upon him negatively.

The public perception of Ryan Dunn was affected by his celebrity, his illegal behaviors were also the cause of his death that is the only difference. If your neighbor did the same thing Ryan Dunn did people would be disgusted by him and almost no one would look upon him favorably.

Look, I'm not trying to get into anything here, I was just saying that I agreed with cookie. Why? Because I never knew him (Ryan Dunn) to actually have done anything wrong, other than what might have been the occasional drunk drive. Along with the "If My neighbor Had Done It" situation you're only partially correct, if a neighbor of mine had died from the illegal act of drinking whilst driving but he did not cause any harm to anyone else in this situation I do believe he really shouldn't be thought upon negatively, therefore I believe it is okay to mourn over the loss of his life rather than to chastise him for drunk driving.

And plus cookie was simply pointing out what he thought on the OP, which was that after the death of a celebrity the outlook on their personality becomes positive over a once previous negative one before death. His statement was pretty much saying that he believed, as do I, that Ryan Dunn never actually had a negative outlook upon his personality before his death.

Once again, I'm not trying to get into anything here, so let us try to keep this from getting any bigger than it already has.

No but how the media blew this up and put so much stress on Paterno, it is not a surprise he died so soon after.
