Looks like Canada wants their own SOPA, but decided to give it a less "flashy" name: Bill C-11 (formerly Bill C-32). And well being that this is a Canadian site, I think it is quite important to bring this to everyone's attention.

Good news is because of the donations limit imposed by the Conservatives (f*ck yeah) there is no lobbying going on here (sorry Grits). This bill has only good intentions to protect copyright laws. Good job team.

Also I am willing to bet RUL is hosted in the states not Canada, doesn't mean we should care less about the issue just that the site is outside this bills jurisdiction.

I don't think that there is instant blacklisting. It only forces YouTube to take down copyrighted material.

When push comes to shove, I don't find this to be anywhere near as bad as sopa. However, that is not to say that this bill wouldn't be harmful. This is it's 4th time such a bill has come to parliament, and many of the bad things have been filtered out. In it's original form you could not record a show to a DVR! How absurd is that. Honestly there is one key point that worry's me about this bill. The fact it will become illegal to circumvent digital protections. You want to take your content off a DVD? Nope. Oh, you want a jailbroken iPhone. Ha, Nope! That's absurd, especially when the bill allows for personal backups! The video below basically restates the main concerns I have with the bill.



As for the last concern he mentions in the video, well that is certainly well concerning! Especially given our government is NOT above being pushed around. http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201...-efforts.shtml

C11 isn't as terrible as SOPA, by no means is it even close, but that doesn't mean that we as citizens should be subjected to such terrible legislation.
